Aim of the course and learning outcomes:
To familiarize students with the history and current problems of school counselling in upper secondary education; provide comprehensive information about the moste important themes of consultancy; to integrate issues of educational, psychological and career counselling in relation to the contemporary school situation; to understand work of school counselling centres (e.g. counselling in the sphere of educational and behavioural problems and students career growth).
 
Course content:

History and present state of school counselling, current regulations and qualification requirements for advisory staff (allowance 2/1)
2.
Educational, psychological and career counselling system in the Czech Republic (allowance 2/1)
3.
School counselling centres (allowance 2/1)
4.Forms and methods of work of school counselling services, diagnostic activities (allowance 2/1)
5.Educational, social and biological determinants of individuality (allowance 2/1)
6.
Adolescent psychology (allowance 2/1)
7.Career guidance and counselling (allowance 2/1)
8.
Emotional and behavioral disorders of adolescents (allowance 2/1)
9.
Specific educational problems in adolescence and their solution (allowance 2/1)
10.
The issues of addiction, sects and their influence on individual, self-image and identity disorders (allowance 2/1)
11.
Stress, tax upon pupils, ego defense mechanisms, neuroses (allowance 2/1)
12.
School readiness and eligibility for compulsory education (allowance 2/1)
13.
Consultancy support for gifted and creative youth and students (allowance 2/1)
14.
Information base for counsellors (allowance 2/1)

Assessment methods:
The course is finished with oral exam. Requirements before oral exam: Active participation in at least 70% of class seminars and submission of all required homework (with passing grade). For passing oral exam student has to demonstrate at least 60% of requirement knowledes and skills. Circuits to exam are public and respect the content of syllabus.
